It's the influx of rich professionals in the service industry from every demographic that move to NYC for it's unmatched culture, job oppurtunities, and lifestyle. Throw in that NYC has always attracted the best foreign immigrants as well as domestic -- and you've got a real estate crunch. <BR/><BR/>"Hipsters" are only a small part of a huge amount of people competing for a small amount of space. <BR/><BR/>It's shortsighted to backlash against "hipsters", when in fact NYC's position as the foremost American city to live in is driving up rent.<BR/><BR/>Hipsters don't bring Starbucks, baby strollers and bougie stores -- young professional couples do. Those people can't afford to live in Manhattan anymore and even parts of Brooklyn -- so they move to new places that meet their requirements for amenities -- such as schools, shopping choices, commute time, and safety.<BR/><BR/>Sunset park is a 30 minute commute to Midtown, is relatively safe, and has nice perks -- of course rent is going up.<BR/><BR/>Anger can lead to change, but angry misdirected is energy wasted.Matt R.
