If you haven't noticed, I haven't posted in a while. Not that I was the most consistent blogger to begin with. Anyway I started this project because of changes I saw in the neighborhood, not sure as to how to process them. Since Aug 2007 I have been active in a neighborhood group, the Sunset Park Alliance of Neighbors, which I urge you to plug into.

There is another woman who does a blog about the neighborhood, bestviewinbrooklyn.blogspot.com who is much more conscientious than I. What can I say? check out her blog. She is putting up a lot of important news and events.
One announcement:
this Thurs June 5 at 6 PM there will be a community-wide meeting concerning a proposed power plant project for the area. It will be at the UPROSE office located at 166A 22 St. Brooklyn NY.

Well I am not completely saying goodbye. I am going to put up some new pictures as soon as I download the disc. One of the reasons I am not such a great blogger is I don't own a camera (I have been using disposible cameras) so the visuals are not always consistent or up to date.
At least the mural is still there. Hopefully more neighbors will get involved in the fight to keep Sunset Park affordable, sustainable and people friendly.

Six months later...
Well it has been six months since I first noticed this condo and started this blog. It was empty then and as of today, no one seems to be living there.
Even the homeless guy is gone (but it is cold out there..hope he found a warm place). There are garbage cans but no people.
I checked the website for the realtor and I can't find any listing for it nor any "open house" activity.
Just emply windows...if anyone knows any different let me know.

I had to delete an anonymous post that called this site filth because it is my policy to delete unsigned anonymous posts.
I have been called worse, anonymous person, and I think you should get over it. Aren't there bigger fish for you to fry besides annoying me? Would you entertain the thought that homelessness is filth, people without access to health care is filth, war is filth and abuse of authority is filth?
The homeless guy in the condo is gone. They put garbage cans there. Still no one is living there but I think I saw one "sold" sign.

From a posting on craigslist...
If NYC today was the same as it was in the 1980's, all these pasty white ugly ass nerdy hipsters and other outta state DORKS walking around Manhattan would be flooding the city's Intensive Care units with stab & gunshot wounds, cracked ribs, broken teeth, and other assault related injuries. But instead they're free to come here, unchallenged by anyone, to drive up our prices ($2000 STUDIO apartments??????) so abnormally that the native NY'ers are fleeing to live under the rocks that these freaks crawled out of to live here in NYC. I hope the immigrants in NYC's surrounding boroughs realize that while these nerds (disguised as hipsters) walk around their neighborhoods smiling at them like retards as if they love their culture (which they really might), they are there to crush & destroy the neighborhood they've spent decades building. To crush the small ethnic cafes and replace them with Starbucks and bars that charge $5, $10 or more for a Corona. They are there to steal their neighborhood from them. Ironic that individually, they probably move into the neighborhood because of it's character, as they started doing over 10 years ago in the Lower East Side and Alphabet City, but then as more & more follow, and the neighborhood's natives get driven out by kids armed with trust funds and over-educated dorks, the neighborhood becomes a "Little Boise" or "Little Little Rock" and loses the character that once made it what it was. Listen to me people of the outer boroughs - look at Manhattan as an example...

Rally in Sunset Park, Thurs Nov. 15, 2007
Dear Neighbor,
I wanted to let you all know about some unpleasant things that are happening to low-income tenants in Sunset Park , and invite you to join Neighbors Helping Neighbors in protesting the unscrupulous methods used by landlord, Jack Geula, and his attorney, Samuel J. Hagan to displace their tenants. These two are using methods both illegal and immoral to force low-income, mainly immigrant tenants out of their buildings so they can raise the rent. Not only are individuals being mistreated, but the stock of affordable, rent-stabilized housing in Sunset Park is being permanently diminished.
Jack Geula may be familiar to you, since he was mentioned in a press conference about unscrupulous landlords that we sponsored April 27 which was covered in the Daily News and El Diario. Sadly, the problems that we sought to highlight in that press conference have only gotten worse. Mr. Geula, who purchased the nine buildings listed below in the fall of 2006, has enlisted the help of his attorney, Samuel Hagan, to use a variety of measures to intimidate and harass his low-income, Latino tenants with a stated goal of removing them from his building and renting to “white people from Oklahoma ”. Geula and his attorney were recently nearly sanctioned by the court for bringing frivolous no-cause eviction actions against two disabled Section 8 tenants. Geula has refused to sign required paperwork to recertify tenants for Public Assistance. He is refusing to make repairs in the apartments of certain tenants. He has made verbal agreements with tenants, and then reneged on
them.
Despite our best efforts Mr. Geula and Mr. Hagan have removed a third to a half of the tenants of Geula’s nearly 200 rent-stabilized units. The majority of these long-term tenants have been low-income, Latino families. The units they have turned over are permanently lost to affordability.
We are coming together at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 15th to demand that Geula and Hagan cease and desist in their efforts to drive low-income Latinos out, diminish the affordable housing stock in Sunset Park , and destabilize this diverse, working class, community. We invite you to join us at this event. We will be rallying at 908 4th Avenue (between 33rd and 34th Street ), which is the office of Geula’s attorney, Sam Hagan. You are also welcome to meet at the Neighbors Helping Neighbors office ( 443 39th Street, suite 202 ) at 12:30 PM to pick up a sign, and walk with us to the rally.
